Nomadland named Best Picture by Toronto Film Critics Association

Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland was named the best movie of 2020 by the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Nomadland is based on Jessica Bruder’s non-fiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century. The movie stars Frances McDormand as a woman who leaves her small town to travel around the American West. The movie also features David Strathairn along with real life nomads Linda May, Swankie, Bob Wells and Peter Spears as fictionalised versions of themselves.

The movie premiered on September 11, 2020 at the Venice Film Festival and won the Golden Lion. It also won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival making it the first film ever to win the top prize at both Venice and Toronto.

Nomadland was well received by the audiences and critics and has won several awards in various categories since its release.
